Dauphin Island Bird Sanctuary: Bird watching is a hugely popular activity on the island. Dauphin Island has a designated sanctuary on the east end of the island just of Bienville Blvd. All about the island Dauphin Island Bird Sanctuaries (DIBS)  has purchased lots and created pocket sanctuaries to provide access to bird watchers.  Estuarium at the Sea Lab (101 Bienville Blvd.251.861.7500): The Estuarium is a public exhibit of marine life and and habitat found in and around Dauphin Island, the Gulf of Mexico, Mobile Bay and the river delta. Get information about, and interact directly with, the marine life in the area.
Fort Gaines (51 Bienville Blvd., 251.861.6992): There are quite a few historical sites on the island. The largest is Fort Gaines, a civil war fort involved in the Battle of Mobile Bay. Fort Gaines has reenactments throughout the year and you can take a self guided walking tour any time the fort is open.Fishing: There are several experienced offshore and inshore fishing charters and guides available. Check the fishing links in Gulf Coast Links for more information. You can also fish on your own at the public beaches or from your own boat. Remember, you will need a fishing license if you want to fish. You can get your fishing license online before you get to the island or you can get it at Marine Resources on the island once your are there.
 Isle Dauphin Golf Club (100 Orleans Drive, 251.861.2433): Many years ago this club was a private, members only affair. Today the club is owned by the city of Dauphin Island. You'll find a pool, beach, golf, tennis, food and drink right on the beach.Mobile Bay Ferry: The Mobile Bay Ferry (actually 2 Ferries) connect Fort Gaines, on Dauphin Island and Fort Morgan in Gulf Shores. The Ferry provides a convenient means to cross Mobile Bay without hours of driving and offers an unforgettable scenic  experience.
 Other Historical Sites: You can also visit Indian Shell Mounds and Goat Tree Park.Public Beach: The beach is the most logical first choice since you are on an island. Public beach access is available all around the island. The most well known and conveniently located is the public beach adjacent to the Dauphin Island fishing pier. The beach and pier are almost in the center of the island. Take a left at the water tower onto Bienville Blvd. and drive west.
