Biloxi has been immortalized in film and song and has forever been know as a fantastic place to visit. Beaches, restaurants, casinos, resort hotels, golf, fishing, sailing and just about anything else you can imagine await you in Biloxi.

Biloxi History

Biloxi has a rich history stretching back more than 300 years. Biloxi has taken great pains to preserve that history. Main Street Biloxi is a unique preservation of the old Biloxi downtown area with shopping, dininig, entertainment and business all within the downtown area. You can visit the casinos on the coast and many other more recent additions to Biloxi but you need to take to time to visit a little Biloxi history the next time you are there.

Here are a few Biloxi historic sites you need to see when you get to Biloxi.

Beauvior - 2244 Beach Blvd, Biloxi (228) 388.1313 -  The Jefferson Davis home and Presidential Library is the complete and comprehenssive resource for information about Jefferson Davis, president of the Confederacy and Mississippi's favorite son. Included at Beauvior is the restored antebellum  mansion, the Presidential Library, a Confederate Museum and cemetery.

Renovation and repair for damages are ongoing and tours are suspended.

Mardi Gras Museum - 119 Rue Magnolia, Biloxi (228) 435.6245
Maritimie and Seafood Museum - (228) 435.6320 Completely destroyed by Katrina and still in rebuilding. You cansail on the Mike Sekul and the Glen L. Swetman, two Biloxi schooners that operate for sailing trips.
Old Brick House - 622 Bayview Avenue, Biloxi (228) 435.6121
Saenger Theatre - 170 Reynoir Street, Biloxi (228) 435.2691 The performing arts center for the Mississippi Gulf Coast. This structure was originally built in 1929. Saenger Theatres are located in many southern cities including Mobile, Alabama and Pensacola, Florida.

The Biloxi Lighthouse  - Highway 90 at Porter Avenue (228) 435.6308 - This metal lighthouse structure was built in 1848. From 1848 to 1939 the lighthouse was operated by civilian keepers including to females. In 1939 the United States Coast Guard took over operation of the lighthouse. In 1968 it was declared surplus property and was deeded to the city of Biloxi.
