If I build my own boat will I be able to get a registration number?
If the boat you are building is of the type that requires it to be registered, in most states this means one powered by wind or a motor, the boat must have a "hull identification number' in order to be registered. Your state probably has a procedure to obtain a hull identification number for your home built boat. Check with the boat licensing authority in your state. |
How do I get a hull identification number if I am building boats for resale?
There are a number of regulations that apply. You can obtain a package of information for new manufacturers through the mail. The information packet covers regulations and other requirements, such as how to get a manufacturers identification code (MIC). To obtain the package you can write to:
