Scuba Diving
![]() Scuba Diving is one activity that available anywhere along the gulf coast. There is spectacular, world class, salt water diving and some of the most extensive fresh water cave systems in the world. If you are already certified there are hundreds of dive sites at your disposal and plenty of charter boats to get you there. You will also find quite a few dive sites accessible form the beach that don't require a boat at all. Try the Destin Jetties in Destin, the Whiskey Wreck and Alabama Point in Gulf Shores. The whiskey wreck has been around for years but, following all the hurricanes in the last few years, a completely different dive. Parts of the wreck that haven't been seen in years are now uncovered. When the gulf is closed down for weather a short drive inland to Ponce De Leon, Florida get you to Vortex and Morrison Springs. Both are great fresh water dives. Morrison is a little rustic and sits in a swamp at the head of a river. Vortex is a very well developed destination with camp grounds, canoe rentals, dive gear rentals, tank fills and souvenirs. Vortex is always busy but in either spot, on a good day, visibility can exceed 100 feet. Both offer dives for new and experienced divers and, if you have a cave certification, some spectacular cave diving opportunities.
